Artist's Comments

Scorpion will kill you.

Okay, first, my scanner really tore into this picture (again.) Much of the finer detail is lost via fiddling with Photoshop to make the picture visible. Sigh.

Second, please critique the hell out of this one. The entire time I was drawing it, I kept feeling like something was off. The head might be too big, or the hand, or the pose might be wrong or too awkward, I can't figure it out.

PLEEEEASE, tell me what it IS!

Third - I bought an old XBox Mortal Kombat game, and it's ruining my life.

Helz yeah Dude! Scorpion is an ass-kicking machine. And this is a killer picture. I way dig. Bummer about the scanner, don't you hate that?

I'll tell you what I think is bothering you; may just be me though...
I think the proportions are generally alright, but the perspective on his right arm is a little off. The forearm and hand are awesome, and seem to be coming towards the viewer at an oblique angle but the upper arm and shoulder seem to be crossing in front of his chest at a purely perpendicular angle to the viewer. I think it is the disparity in angles that is giving you headaches. Really a small tweak to the foreshortening on the upper right arm and the problem goes away.
But even as is, its a solid work bud. :D

Thank you dude, I think you're right as well. It's not anatomically wrong, per se, it's just awkward! You would have to squeeze your arm to your chest to bend it at that angle, and then his clothes would be all wrinkled.

Oh well, I really haven't drawn much lately besides that commission, so this is good practice.

How's it going dude?

I see what you mean about the scanner, i think...you should have words with it. Serious words.

As for the critique-
Firstly I really love the pose and the overall drawing (I'm a fan of most of your drawings) but, his left wrist and forearm looks a bit big compared to his hand and his right wrist.

Secondly, his right side looks slightly too 'static' almost as if the limb is prosthetic, I think this could be sorted though with some more shading behind the arm to show it is away from the body and to give it more life.

Also would you be willing to give me permission to colour it as I think it would add an extra dimension to the piece.

Thank you very much! Your comments were great. I agree with you about the wrist, which is funny because I saw it as I was drawing and literally measured it with a ruler, but it still managed to look like a tree trunk.

The right side is awkward. I think the arm is bent too much towards the body, like it's pinched.

Feel free to color to your heart's content, that would be great!

first of all, congrats for the drawing :) next, the critiques ;)

1) colour it, Scorpion was an extraordinary character thanks to its colours, black&yellow, resembling an Hornet maybe

2) the head it's ok, the eyes need to be a lil' larger and whiter, Scorpion has always large white glowing eyes, seems blind sometimes

3) the pose I think it's ok also, the right hand bothers me a lil', instead of a fireball he should hold the famous scorpion-style spear head

but anyway, that's just my opinion, overall u made a great picture :)

Thank you very much for the comments! I went back and forth on the spear... I think I'm going to do a more dynamic Scorpion with it soon.

This one was supposed to be powerful, reflecting the fire and skull theme which is very strong, so I stood him basically upright and put him in a powerful stance.

I think a colored version may be in the works... Thanks again!!!
